Billions of liters in reduced water use with renewed mobile phones

At first glance, it looks like a brand new mobile. But every refurbished and refurbished phone has a story of recycling, sustainability and responsibility for our planet. Since its inception in 2019, re!Newed has had a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions, raw material use and e-waste. By annually giving new life to thousands of Swedish mobile phones, we have also saved our planet over three billion liters of water.

Water, one of our planet's most valuable resources
At a time when drought, water scarcity and climate change are high on the global agenda, every drop is precious. At re!Newed, we are not only passionate about giving mobile phones new life, but also about saving our planet's most precious resource.
A milestone in 2023 is that we have collectively reduced water use by roughly 3,4 billion litres, compared to if our customers had chosen to buy new mobile phones. To put this into context, that is equivalent to enough water to fill over 1 Olympic swimming pools. Imagine an Olympic swimming pool, a giant pool filled to the brim with about 360 million liters of water. Now imagine 2,5 such pools.
A step forward towards a greener future
If every (purchased) refurbished mobile had instead been a new mobile, the environmental impact would be enormous. Since re!Newed was founded, together with our customers, we have also taken the following steps towards a greener future:
- We have reduced CO2 emissions by 3 tonnes. That's like taking 968 cars off the road for an entire year.
- We have saved 12 tonnes of raw material. It weighs about the same as 848 blue whales.
- With 9 tons less e-waste, we have saved the equivalent weight of two large elephants.
