  2. Backup via iCloud
  3. Via computer (Finder or iTunes)

The easiest way is usually to use iPhone Quick Start.

1. Quick Start iPhone (requires iOS 11 or later)

Fast startup of iPhone only works if you have both your old and new phone and both devices are working properly.

  1. Turn on your new iPhone and place it near the old one.
  2. On your old iPhone, a message appears: Set up new iPhone – pressure continue.
  3. Follow the instructions and use the camera on the old one to scan the pattern on the new one.
  4. When prompted, enter the passcode of your old iPhone on your new one.
  5. Choose whether to transfer from iPhone to iPhone directly or restore from an iCloud backup.
  6. Follow the rest of the steps on the screen.

Tip! Keep both devices connected to power and Wi-Fi until the transfer is complete.

iPhone fast startup not working

  1. Restart both phones and try again.
  2. Make sure both are updated with the latest iOS version.
  3. Check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi – they must be enabled on both devices.
  4. Double-check that you are signed in with the same Apple ID on both devices.
  5. Place the phones close to each other – preferably next to each other on the same table.
  6. Try resetting the new iPhone (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content) and start over.

If nothing works, you can move to iPhone using iCloud or computer transfer instead.

2. iCloud Backup

  1. Go into the settings on your old iPhone
  2. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and select Back Up Now.
  3. Turn on your new iPhone, follow the instructions until you get to Apps & Data, select Restore from iCloud Backup.
  4. Sign in with your Apple ID and select the most recent backup.

3. Via computer (Finder or iTunes)

  1. Connect your old iPhone to a computer, open Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (Windows or older macOS).
  2. Back up the device (preferably with encryption to include all data).
