Guide: Screen mirroring iPhone to TV

Want to show photos, videos, or apps from your iPhone on your TV? With Screen Mirroring, you can easily mirror the content from your phone to your smart TV – wirelessly or with a cable. It works even if you have a used iPhone, as long as it supports iOS 12 or later. Here are five different ways to display your screen on your TV using iPhone screen sharing.

Cast from iPhone to TV with AirPlay (for Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV)

AirPlay is the easiest way to share your screen with your iPhone. It works for those of you who have an Apple TV or a smart TV that supports AirPlay (e.g. certain models from Samsung, LG and Sony, among others).

How to use:

  1. Connect your iPhone and TV to the same WiFi network.
  2. Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open control center.
  3. Tryck pa Screen mirroring (Screen Mirroring).
  4. Select your TV from the list.
  5. If a code appears on the TV, enter it on your iPhone.

Now everything from your iPhone is mirrored to the TV.

Connect iPhone to TV with HDMI cable and adapter

If your TV doesn't have AirPlay, you can mirror your screen using a cable.

This is what you need:

  • En Lightning to HDMI adapter.
  • An ordinary HDMI cable.

How to use:

  1. Connect the HDMI cable to your TV.
  2. Connect the other end to the adapter.
  3. Connect the adapter to your iPhone.
  4. Change the source on the TV to the correct HDMI input.

You are now screen sharing your iPhone to the TV.

Use a third-party app (for some smart TV models)

If your TV doesn't have AirPlay but is connected to WiFi, you can sometimes use an app.

Examples of apps:

  • Airscreen
  • Mirror for Samsung TV
  • LG TV Plus (for LG TV)

How to use:

  1. Install the app on both your TV (if possible) and your iPhone.
  2. Follow the instructions in the app – you usually need to connect both devices to the same WiFi.
  3. Start screen mirroring your iPhone via the app.

Please note that mirroring may sometimes have delays or limitations in some apps.

Cast with Google Chromecast

To screen share your iPhone with Chromecast, you need a Chromecast device connected to your TV and an app that supports Chromecast.

How to use:

  1. Connect your iPhone and Chromecast to the same WiFi network.
  2. Download the app Google Home on your iPhone.
  3. Open the app and select your Chromecast device.
  4. To mirror apps (like YouTube or Netflix), tap Cast icon in the app and select your TV.
  5. For full screen mirroring, use a third-party app such as Reply.

Please note Apple does not allow full system mirroring to Chromecast directly, therefore an app like Replica is required to mirror the entire screen.

Share with Roku

If you have a Roku device or a smart TV with Roku built-in, you can mirror some apps or use the Roku app.

How to use:

  1. Connect both iPhone and Roku to the same WiFi network.
  2. Download the app Roku on your iPhone.
  3. Open the app and pair it with your Roku device.
  4. Use the function Media in the app to share photos, music or videos.
  5. For more advanced mirroring, use third-party apps like Mirror for Roku.

Use Amazon Fire TV Stick

With a Fire Stick, you can mirror your iPhone screen to your TV via apps that support AirPlay.

How to use:

  1. Connect the Fire Stick to the TV and connect it to the same WiFi network as your iPhone.
  2. Install an AirPlay compatible app on the Fire Stick, for example Airscreen.
  3. Open AirScreen on Fire Stick and follow the instructions to enable AirPlay.
  4. Swipe down on your iPhone to open control center, press Screen mirroring and select your Fire Stick.

common questions and answers

Does screen mirroring work with all TV models?

No, it depends on the technology your TV supports. AirPlay works with Apple TV and some smart TV models. For other TVs, you'll need an HDMI adapter or third-party apps.

Does the TV have to have WiFi for this to work?

Yes, if you are using wireless mirroring via AirPlay, Chromecast, Roku, or Fire Stick, both your iPhone and TV must be connected to the same WiFi network. Wired connection does not require WiFi.

Can I mirror all apps from iPhone?

Most apps can be mirrored, but some streaming services (like Netflix or Apple TV+) may block screen mirroring for copyright reasons. In that case, use the app's built-in casting or AirPlay feature.

Why isn't screen mirroring working?

This could be because your iPhone and TV aren't connected to the same network, the feature isn't enabled on your TV, or the app you're using isn't supported. Try restarting your devices or checking your settings.

Can I use Screen Mirroring without Apple TV?

Yes, you can use an HDMI adapter, Chromecast, Roku, or Fire Stick along with an app that supports screen mirroring.
