How to take a screenshot on iPhone?
You can take a screenshot on iPhone using buttons, AssistiveTouch, or an Apple Pencil. We explain how.
1. Take Screenshot on iPhone with Physical Buttons
Works on the following iPhone models: 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 13, 13 Plus, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 12, 12 Plus, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 11, 11 Plus, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, XS, XS Max, XR and X.
For iPhones with Face ID (without Home button)
- Go to what you want to take a screenshot of.
- Press simultaneously side button (right side) and volume up.
- Release both buttons immediately.
- A thumbnail will appear in the bottom left corner – tap it to edit or share, or go to the photo album to do so from there.
For iPhones with Home button (Touch ID)
Works on the following iPhone models: SE (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation), 8, 8 Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 6, 6 Plus, and 5s
- Go to what you want to take a screenshot of.
- Press simultaneously home button and side button (or the top button on older models).
- Release both buttons immediately.
- A thumbnail image appears in the lower left corner.
2. With AssistiveTouch (without using buttons)
Great if the buttons don't work or you can't use them.
To enable AssistiveTouch:
- Go to Settings > Aid > Print > AssistiveTouch.
- Turn on AssistiveTouch – a small button will appear on the screen.
- Press the button > select Unit > Wed > Screenshot.
- The screen flashes and a screenshot is saved in Pictures.

3. With Apple Pencil (on iPad and some iPhone models)
If you use Apple Pencil, you can take a screenshot on your iPhone by:
- Swipe up from the bottom corner of the screen with the pen.
- This will take a screenshot that you can edit immediately.

Where are the screenshots saved?
All screenshots are automatically saved in the app Pictures, during Album > Screenshots.
Can I edit a screenshot right after I take it?
Yes. When the thumbnail appears in the corner after you take a screenshot on your iPhone, you can tap it to draw, crop, or add text.
How do I take a screenshot if the buttons don't work?
You can use AssistiveTouch to take screenshots without having to press any of the iPhone's physical buttons.
Are screenshots saved in iCloud?
If you have iCloud Photos enabled, screenshots are also synced to iCloud and other devices that are logged in with the same Apple ID.
Can I take a screenshot of an entire web page?
Yes, in Safari you can take a full page-screenshot and save as PDF. Take a regular screenshot and tap the preview, then select the "Full Page" tab. This feature is supported on iOS 13 and later and on iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later.
Is there a quick way to share the screenshot directly?
Yes, tap the thumbnail that appears after the screenshot and select the share icon (square with an up arrow) to send via, for example, message, email or AirDrop.
